Liturgy
Just as an assembly is fed at the Eucharistic Table with Christ’s Body and Blood, its liturgy provides nourishment from God through the proclamation of Scripture. The quality of the proclamation will determine whether people listen attentively and respond faithfully.
Readers (also referred to as lectors) play a vital role in Liturgy of the Word services. Readers (also called lectors) must possess excellent moral character and be imbued with the spirit of the liturgy, conveying this spirit throughout the congregation. Readers must recognize that reading Scripture is more than simply reading recited text; it represents an active dialogue between God and his people.
After the readings come the homily, which draws lessons from Scripture texts and applies them to our lives; following this homily is either the prayer of thanksgiving or, if baptismal promises are renewed, either Nicene or Apostles’ Creed (typically Nicene Creed or Apostles’ Creed).
After every liturgy is the Universal Prayer, in which all present pray for their Church and world as they place all their needs into Word of God webinars 2023 loving care. Eucharist
The Eucharist is at the core of Christian worship. It recalls Jesus’ Last Supper with his followers before he was arrested and crucified. Christians believe that by partaking in its bread and wine, they are united with Christ and other believers; this spiritual communion deepens and strengthens their faith.
Christians receive Christ’s body, blood, and Spirit at the Eucharist. Through Communion with Him in the Holy Eucharist, his presence can transform lives – thus justifying its position as the “source and summit” of Christian life.
Although the Eucharist serves as a memorial of Jesus’ sacrifice, not all Christian denominations agree on its meaning or symbolism. Some churches believe that when priests consecrate bread and wine to become Christ’s body and blood through transubstantiation – despite these differences, most churches agree on its significance and value.
Discipleship
As a follower of Jesus Christ, you must disciple others. While “discipleship” can often be confused with “evangelism,” its true definition is helping another person deepen their relationship with Christ. Doing this requires both parties to commit time and energy – it won’t happen overnight!
Discipleship comes in many shapes and forms. From reading a chapter of a book together and discussing it over coffee every week to spontaneous moments like father and son sitting on their porch to watch the sunset or simply gathering for coffee each Tuesday morning as part of an informal group or an older woman inviting a younger single lady for prayer and Bible study at her home – there are numerous possibilities when it comes to disciplining others.
Lois Barrett, AMBS Professor of Anabaptist Studies, will explore the nuances of Anabaptist faith and practice. She will highlight the significance of discernment and community concerning the disciple’s call to ministry development and share stories of her understanding and others who have responded positively.
